Today finally concludes my last flight of 2025. Sneaking in one last flight before I leave US for vacation. Even though the weather is forecasting snowstorm up in Tahoe, the weather in the bay happen to be good enough for a small lap of VFR flight for club currency. (It was pretty bumpy though.)

44 flights, 5975nm and 92.2 hours

The Exciting

  • This year’s long XC destination goes to: Sunriver Resort
    • The one and only hotel that also has an on-site airport that I can use AMEX FHR credit with 😅
    • Visited the famous Hillsboro Airport: apparently a lot of Taiwanese people go there for training???
    • A loooong night of flying, to get my night flying hours required for commercial. It was a 3.5hrs flight from KHIO back home.
    • Even heard of a Cessna having engine problem on radio as I fly through Oregon - California border, thankfully they landed safely in a nearby field (at night!)
  • Got my Commercial ASEL certificate!

The New

  • Learned to fly the Piper Warrior / Archer
    • The flight school I went to in Minnesota exclusively use them so I checked it out in my club to get familiar with it
    • I really like landing in low-wings a lot! Both Cirrus and Piper and much easier to land than the “land-o-matic” Cessna lol
    • I find myself really enjoying the famous “Johnson bar” flaps design. Pulling that handle is very satisfying! 🥰
    • Too bad none of those we have here has G1000 / autopilot, it would be a pain in the ass to fly them on a long XC or in IMC
    • I did use the chance to get more comfortable in flying approaches in 6 packs (for context, I rarely fly 6 packs.)
  • Flying in Minnesota!
    • wow, much flat, so cold! - doge, probably
    • Never realized that finding a visual checkpoint could be this hard 😅
    • Never had been sandwiched in a pattern between a SF50 (Vision Jet) and a C-130 before lol

The … needing improvement
